Today I... Monday, January 28, 2013

Today's going to be a quick post.  I've been really busy getting things done today, and including a lot of online things.  Teddy has been super patient waiting for the computer, so I want to give him the rest of the night for computer time.  Which means quick, bullet-pointed posts.

So, here's a quick and dirty look at what I did today:

There are probably other things I'm forgetting, but I'm feeling really productive for today.  Certainly can't complain!

Today I.... January 21, 2013

Today was another super productive day.  I'm still in the middle of doing a ton of things, so I'm only going to write this up in bullet list format.

Today I've managed to:

  • Match up two bags of mismatched socks
  • Clean the upstairs bathroom
  • Clean out the freezer (long story)
  • Clean the downstairs bathroom
  • Update SparkPeople with food and exercise for the day
  • Update Sanity's Overrated with three memes and my Daily Challenge
  • Update Views from the Reader Side and Goodreads with a review of The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
  • Washed, dried and folded one load of laundry
  • Ate a healthy lunch, a fairly healthy dinner and an ok breakfast.
  • Drank 8 glasses of water

Still tonight, I'm going to:

  • Take care of the dinner dishes, handwashing anything that doesn't fit in the dishwasher
  • 30 minutes of Pilates
  • Take Me time.
I may write a bit more tomorrow morning.  We'll see how the day goes.

Today I... January 20, 2012

Yeah, I've been bad about updating this for a few days.  Some of it was depression, some of it was not spending any computer time in the evening.  Most of my computer time has been in the morning or early afternoon, at a point when I don't have enough to talk about yet.  And then, I forget to add it to my list for the next day.

Anyway, I'm going to try to be a bit better about that from this point forward.  After all, I'm doing this for me and I know seeing my positive accomplishments help me quite a bit.

So, on to this weekend (rather than just today).  We have been putting a lot of our usual weekend plans on hold because of the money crunch that we have.  The only trip out was to go to the library (I had several books waiting for me) and to Target to use a gift card we got for Christmas to buy some groceries.  Then Rich headed out to Wal-Mart today to use a different Christmas gift card to buy what we'd forgotten on our previous trip.  (I really need to start writing out a grocery list.)  Otherwise, we were homebodies.

But we weren't slacker homebodies.  I managed to get the living room cleaned up, took care of several things on the computer (mostly Daily Challenges and memes).  I also managed to clean up the kitchen tonight (back to looking clean and bright!) and had the boys do a little cleaning in the dining room.

Unfortunately, there were also a lot of fights from the kids when it came to asking them to do things.  We had a talk tonight about everyone trying to work harder on getting things done around here.  I know I'm the one that stays home all day, but that doesn't mean that I'm the maid.  So, we'll see.  I need to remember to use the boys' Chore Boards and update them every week.  (Maybe that's something to add to my WeekPlan.)

I got a little more done on the reading side of things.  Rich and I finished listening to The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan last night.  Heck, we stayed up until 11 just to finish it.  While the story was good, there were a few problems with it.  I'm hoping to write this up for Views from the Reader Side and Goodreads.

This morning was the most productive part of my day, though.  I got up, got in the shower, got dressed and grabbed a notebook.  Then while Teddy was playing on the computer, I worked on writing out my meal plan for the week, writing out my soft schedule for the week, and writing down some ideas for Daily Challenge posts.  I was able to cross off several items on my To Do list before 9 am and it felt GOOD.

I also talked Rich into exercising with me this afternoon.  Now that the bedroom floor is cleaned off and we have the room, we can do exercise DVDs there instead of kicking the kids off the TV downstairs.  We did 30 minutes of Pilates.  I was aching, but it felt really good when I was done.  The one thing I need to remember when I exercise, though, is to bring up a big thing of water.  I'll really need it!

So year.... I've gotten back on track pretty good.  I'm hoping to have the same happen next week.  After all, the only one that can change me is me.

Today I... Monday, January 14, 2013

Well, today wasn't quite as good of a day as yesterday was, but I can't complain.  I still managed to get quite a bit done and I'm feeling good about it at the end of the day.

Before I get started, however, I do want to post the pictures that I promised last night.  The clutter that you can see in the pictures are the few things that needed to go downstairs but hadn't made it as of last night (By now, I can actually work out in my bedroom, though!)

Compared to ever square inch being covered with stuff, I did a fantastic job if I do say so myself.

Now on to today.  The day started with making sure the boys were both ready to go out the door.  I was taking Pete up to my neighbor, Shannon's, while I drove Teddy and her kids in to school.  I had a meeting at the school to meet with the administration about getting him into the ENCORE (exceptional education) program.  I was lucky enough to get there early enough not to have to park on the street - as much as I personally love the school that Teddy goes to, it's one of, if not the, oldest schools in the district and parking sucks.  My appointment wasn't until 15 minutes after school started, so I sat around and chatted with a few people I knew, including Teddy's kindergarten teacher from last year. When the meeting time came around, it went quickly and well.  Teddy did very well on the assessments and they recommended he take part in the program.  I told him when he got home from school today and he was quite happy to hear it.  As was I.

After I left the school, I stopped by Shannon's and chatted for a bit before Pete and I left.  He'd been great for her, then started acting like a goof as soon as I got there.  No real surprise.  It's his MO.  We headed home after about an hour, I got some cereal and drink for him and started on some of my computer work.

My big thing, computer-wise, was getting memes out the door.  I managed to do four of them over on Sanity.  I still have a few other things I want to do meme-wise (I've got my One Word button to post and link to, plus this week's Writer's Workshop - watch Sanity for the link-ups there.  I'm too tired for linking right now!)  I had to reboot my computer because I had a wonky sound issue happening on it, and while I was letting it do it's thing, I decided it was time to work on the kitchen.  Since I'd worked so hard on it Friday and I'd been keeping up with it over the weekend, it only took me about 10 minutes to empty the dishwasher, put the morning and later-night dishes into it and wipe down the counters.  Go me!

I also worked on laundry in between blog posts.  I managed to wash, dry and fold one of the three bins of laundry that you see in the pictures above.  Rich, the wonderful man I married, put the laundry away for me.  I've got another load in the dryer and tomorrow (hopefully) I'll be able to finish the rest of the laundry up.  Busy day ahead tomorrow, though.

Rich called a little after 2 to tell me they were letting everyone leave at 2:30 today.  The weather was during nasty - sleet and frozen mix - and they didn't want anyone out on the roads in it any longer than they had to be.  Sadly, it looks like we're going to have much of the same throughout the night.  We're still waiting to hear whether they'll be closing the schools tomorrow or not.

While Rich was on his way home from work and Teddy on his way from school, I worked on my daily challenge for today.  It came out pretty good, if I do say so myself.  Not exactly what I was envisioning, but not bad at all.  It took me 15 to 20 minutes to do.  Then I spent another 20 cleaning the living room, followed by enjoying dinner made by my hubby.

Most of the rest of the night has been spent in relaxation.  Playing a little Marvel Avengers, writing up my Daily Challenge post, and posting here.  All in all, a good day.  The only two things on my list that I didn't get done were exercising (but after yesterday, I'm not complaining too much) and logging what I ate on SparkPeople. Considering how little that way, it won't take me long to do so tomorrow.

Tomorrow will either be an unexpectedly home-bound day (if they close the schools), or an incredibly busy day.  Here's a glance at what I have planned for tomorrow:

So... yeah.  Tomorrow's gonna be busy.  But busy is good.  keeps me active, doesn't let me wallow.

Today I.... Sunday, January 13, 2013

Today wasn't the day I had planned, exactly, but it wasn't a bad one either.

My plans involved a bit of computer work - including two book reviews - some blogging on Sanity, a bit of exercise, some grocery shopping and working on a motivational poster for my daily challenge.

Instead, today was sleeping in later than usual (8:30am is impossibly late for this house!), having a wonderful breakfast of gingerbread pancakes and ham made by my husband, cleaning the kitchen from the breakfast dishes back to it's pristine condition, working online a bit (including working with my SparkCoach), let Rich go to the store by himself, then I headed upstairs to clean the bedroom.

I got the bug.  I had expected to put in an hour.  Get the stuff off the floor, get it cleaned up and then I'd worry about the rest later.  Nooooo.  That's not what happened.  I spent 5 1/2 hours, skipping lunch and dinner (I know, bad me - I did eat when I was finished) getting everything off the floor, off the headboard, out from under the bed, off Rich's dresser, straightening the bookshelves, cleaning out bins, putting things away in other rooms and putting things that needed to go downstairs in separate boxes and bags so I'd be able to bring them to the appropriate places when I came downstairs.  Rich came up near the end and helped me finish up.  We even got the new sheets on the bed.  Of course, I now have three laundry hampers completely filled with laundry to be washed, dried, folded and put away, but that can be for another day.

I'm going to get a picture tonight when I head back upstairs of the bedroom.  Because I need to remember how great it looks.  And, once I'm done getting the rooms to a point where weekly maintenance takes an hour at most and my other side projects (read: closets and bookshelves) are finished, I'm going to start putting up artwork.  It's time my home felt like a home.

So today was productive.  And I'm still feeling great about what  I'm accomplishing!

Today I... January 12, 2012

Today has been a lot less productive than yesterday but that is not a problem.  Not every day needs to be filled to the brim with productivity.

Part of why I didn't get as much done was because of my lack of sleep last night.  I took a sudafed at around 9 and stayed up for awhile playing on the computer.  I went to bed at 11 and fell instantly asleep.  The original plan was to take benadryl as well, but I was out before I remembered to do so.  Of course, the sudafed was still coursing through my body so I woke up at around 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep no matter how hard I tried.  I didn't start getting sleepy again until around 9 this morning.

So today's been a relaxation day.  I didn't exercise (and considering the fact I'm still aching, that's probably not a bad thing), but I have been trying to make healthier diet choices than yesterday.  I also managed to get a little blogging done over at Sanity's Overrated.  I'd planned on doing some book reviews, but I knew I didn't have the brain for it.  So instead of half-hearted reviewing, it's bumped until tomorrow or Monday.

Today was supposed to be library day but I didn't even have the energy for that.  Rich, being the wonderful husband he is, headed out to bring back what was due and pick up an audio book I was waiting for. He picked up a couple other things for us as well, including The Reduced Shakespeare Company - The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). It looks to be a hoot.  There's a chance we'll watch that tonight.

My dad brought my van back today so I'll be able to drive myself around again.  He stayed to visit for a little while before Rich drove him home.  It was nice to visit with him for a bit.


I actually did something today that I haven't done in awhile - painted my nails.  They're not as long as I'd like, but they're getting there.  Long enough to look pretty, anyway.

I also had to play nursemaid mommy today as well.  Poor Bubs hurt himself on the coffee table.  He's got one heck of a bruise on his nose.


Other than that, it's been pretty slow.  My daily challenge is up, and I'm thinking of what I need to get together for tomorrow's challenge - creating a motivational poster for myself.  I've got some ideas of things to add - pics of me from HS, quotes that motivate me, that kind of thing.  It's going to be the most challenging challenge thus far.  But I'll do it!  I'm going to persevere.

Later tonight, I'll be playing some CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder with Rich.  It's been too long since we've had a chance to sit down and play something, so I'm looking forward to it.  Also, I'm planning on getting a better night's sleep!

Today I... for Friday, January 11, 2013

Yep, I'd been really bad about updating this.  Great idea, life got in the way.  But I'm starting a few new things in my life - not really New Years resolutions because, 1) I didn't start them on January 1, b) they are more lifestyle changes than resolutions and, iii) it's all about the baby steps rather than the big changes.

Anyway, one of the things that I'm doing is a daily challenge for myself.  Every day, I'm doing something else that will help me get focused (my watch word for 2013).  One of the things is writing out (once a week) my soft schedule for the week.  I'm using Week Plan for my schedule.  It's a nice way to see what I want to try to get done each day and how long I expect each thing to take.

I've got updating this blog as one of the things I'll be doing daily, so I can keep track of what I've done.  kind of a way to say, "You rock, Amber!", especially on days when I'm not feeling as productive as others.  I need to remember the big picture rather than each frame - days will vary but as long as more is getting done than not, I'm in good shape.

So, for today, this is what I've accomplished:


  • I wrote my soft schedule for the next week, through January 20th.  Me time and checking said schedule is listed for every day (along with other things like exercise and remembering to eat).
  • I updated Sanity's Overrated with four different memes.  I'm hoping to keep up with the memes that I enjoy doing every day over the next week so I can use it as a template for what to do on the various blogs each day.
  • I did SparkCoach for today, visualizing where I like to be and letting the positive energy flow into me from the memory of that place.  My place?  The rock by my neighbor's pond in Downsville.  It's where I used to go to think when I was a teen.  It's still my "safe" place, mentally.
  • I did 35 minutes of strength training.  I ache, but it's a good ache.  Can't complain about that.  It included ball and dumbbell work - crunches, push-ups, swimming, curls... a good work out.
  • I did my ankle exercises.  It's definitely getting stronger.  I even went without my brace all day today and I'm not suffering because of it.  Maybe I'll just get rid of the brace all together.
  • I cleaned the kitchen.  It took me 2 hours, but I moved appliances, scrubbed counters, cleaned out the toaster oven and the microwave, cleared the dishwasher, refilled it and ran it, hand-washed several dishes, wiped down cabinet doors, cleaned off the front of the dishwasher and stove, cleaned off the top of the stove, swept.... I worked hard and I did a fantastic job.  I can't move much now, but the important thing is that I got it done!
I worked hard and got a lot done, and I'm feeling good about it.
